Yellow sub-humans
Luc WunenBurger LWB · 2026
"Yellow Subhumans" is rooted in a neo-expressionist aesthetic with hints of Art Brut, where the brutality of the line clashes with the rigidity of the printed text. The work functions as a societal palimpsest. By superimposing his anthropomorphic figures onto administrative pages, the artist materializes the tension between the organic and the normative. The bodies do not rest on emptiness: they are traversed, alienated, and shaped by the weight of discourse and institutions. Through schematic silhouettes with bold black outlines and primary flat tints, the figuration tends toward the archetype. The title ironically questions the dehumanization and relegation of the individual to the status of a category or mass. Defying perspective, the figures gravitate and tip in a choreography of imbalance. Raised arms embody a cry of emancipation against this omnipresent yellow background, simultaneously a harsh light and an enclosing matrix.
