Painting Basquiat is like summoning a ghost that refuses to be silenced. It's like conjuring the spirit of an artist who burned the candle at both ends to illuminate the blind spots of modern art.

In this work, I wanted to pay homage to this meteoric rise: that of the kid from Samoa who became the king of New York.
